Weekly Grant Round-Up

FEMA's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program opened on March 11th. This program helps fire departments increase the number of trained, on-staff firefighters in their communities. Funds can be used to recruit and hire new firefighters, as well as retain existing firefighters. This fiscal year, FEMA has $360 million appropriated in funding and expects to make 300 awards. The Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Program comes from the DOJ's Community Oriented Policing Services. Funds from this program are used to improve the delivery of, and access to, mental health and wellness services for law enforcement. This program funds projects that develop knowledge, increase awareness of effective mental health strategies, and increase the number of law enforcement agencies using peer support, training, and other wellness programs. Law enforcement agencies can apply for up to $200,000 to support a two-year program. Applications are due April 30, 2024. The Cultivating Access, Rights, and Equity Program from the New Jersey Department of Labor funds projects that make New Jersey's workers more aware of paid family and medical leave benefits, earned sick leave, unemployment insurance, and other workers' rights. This program focuses on workers who are less likely to have paid leave, such as immigrants, refugees, and veterans.
