Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program

This program seeks to revitalize New Jersey's distressed neighborhoods. The NRTC offers business entities a 100% tax credit against various New Jersey state taxes. Credits are provided to business entities that invest in the revitalization of low- and moderate-income neighborhoods in eligible cities. 60% of the tax credit funds must be used for activities related to housing and economic development. The remaining balance may be used for complementary activities such as assisting small businesses, removing barriers to self-sufficiency, and promoting the integration of mixed-income neighborhoods. A total of $15 million per year is available in tax credits.

COPS Hiring Program

The US Department of Justice's "COPS Hiring Program" funds law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers/deputies. The goal of this program to increase grantees' community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

Anticipated outcomes of the CHP program awards include engagement in planned community partnerships, implementation of projects to analyze and assess problems, implementation of changes to personnel and agency management to support community policing, and increased agency capacity to engage in community policing activities.

Funding Amount: Up to $157,500,000 in total program funding

Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act Program

Funds the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers and their families through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, stress reduction, clinical support, and other promising practices for wellness programs.

School Violence Prevention Program

The Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Act of 2018 (STOP School Violence Act of 2018) gave the COPS Office authority to provide awards directly to States, units of local government, or Indian tribes to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the jurisdiction of the grantee through evidence-based school safety programs and technology.

Funding Amount: Up to$500,000

Match: 25%

Reminder: Grants for Transportation

NJDOT has three grant programs to improve transportation, road and pedestrian safety, and quality of life. All of them are due July 1, 2026.

Municipal Aid

Funds municipalities' transportation programs. Projects can support safety, walking, and biking through the encouragement of bicycling and walking as alternative modes of transportation, improvement of municipal bridges and roads, improvement of quality of life through beautification, making roadways safer, and reducing road congestion.

Bikeways

Provides funding to promote bicycling and walking as alternative modes of transportation, improve the quality of life, and make roadways safer. The primary objective is to fund bicycle projects that create new Bike Path Mileage. These bike paths and lanes must be physically separated from motorized vehicular traffic by an open space or barrier, either within the highway right of way or an independent right of way. 

Funding Amount: $1,000,000 in total funding

Transit Village

Funds non-traditional transportation-related projects in the municipalities designated as Transit Villages. It seeks to encourage reduced auto-dependency, promote cleaner air, revitalized and redevelop areas around transit facilities, and create compact, mixed-use neighborhoods.
