FY26 Bus Safety, Accessibility, and Innovation Research Program

The United States Department of Transportation’s “FY26 Bus Safety, Accessibility, and Innovation Research Program” funds projects that develop driver safety systems and passenger safety systems, such as: 

  1. Driver Safety Systems – Transit vehicle and technology upgrades that protect the operator and enhance the safety of those outside of the vehicle, including vulnerable road users.

  2. Passenger Safety Systems – Transit vehicle and technology upgrades that protect and increase accessibility of the passengers.

Funding Amount: $10,000,000 in total funding; 2 expected awards

Match: 20%

2026 National Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share Grant Program

The United States Department of Agriculture's “National Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share” Grant Program advances solutions to the economic, health, and environmental challenges faced by communities. This year’s program focused on advancing community tree resource utilization, which can reduce waste and create value by turning wood generated from pruning, removals, storm events, and pest or disease outbreaks into useful products. These products may include lumber, slabs, furniture, flooring, biochar, or other materials that strengthen local economies, reduce disposal costs, and improve community resilience. 

Funding Amount: $200,000 to $750,000

Match: 1:1

Nonprofit Security Grant Program

The NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness “Nonprofit Security Grant Program” provides funds to nonprofits at the greatest risk of terrorist attacks. There are two grant funding opportunities: 

  • Security Personnel (Up to $20,000): Provides funds to hire federal, state, county, or municipal active law enforcement officers appointed or security officers registered at the applicant’s facility.

  • Target Hardening Equipment (Up to $100,000): Provides funding for the purchase and installation of security equipment on property owned or leased by the nonprofit organization. 

Funding Amount: $20,000 to $100,000, based on funding category 

Match: Not Required
