Green Acres: Special Funding Round

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has announced a special round of funding for eligible nonprofit organizations that provide outdoor recreation and conservation opportunities on property that is owned and managed by the NJDEP. Eligible nonprofits must have a valid, executed agreement with the DEP that authorizes recreation and conservation improvements to State-owned, DEP-managed land, and must have obtained written support from the relevant DEP managing agency. Eligible projects create, restore, or expand outdoor recreation and conservation opportunities.

Funding Amount: $50,000 to $3,000,000

Application Deadline: September 30, 2026

The NJDEP's next annual funding round for Green Acres (open to both nonprofits and municipalities) will accept applications in Spring 2027. If you have an eligible project in mind, it's never too late to start planning!

Security Improvements for Houses of Worship

The Bureau of Justice Assistance's "Enhancing Security Measures for Houses of Worship" program enhances security and law enforcement capabilities at faith-based institutions to prevent and respond to bias-motivated crimes. This program has two funding tracks:

  • Faith-Based Institution Security Camera and Evidence, which helps faith-based institutions acquire professional-grade security camera systems. This track also provides funding for technical training for using the new equipment.

  • House of Worship Law Enforcement Protection, which funds overtime costs for law enforcement officers to provide visible, uniformed security presence at houses of worship during services, events, and other high-risk periods.

Funding Amount: $200,000 (Faith-Based Institution Security Camera and Evidence); $150,000 (House of Worship Law Enforcement Protection)

Application Deadline: September 2, 2026 (Grant Budget); September 9, 2026 (Full application).

Nonprofit Security Grant Program

The NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness “Nonprofit Security Grant Program” provides funds to nonprofits at the greatest risk of terrorist attacks. There are two grant funding opportunities: 

  • Security Personnel (Up to $20,000): Provides funds to hire federal, state, county, or municipal active law enforcement officers appointed or security officers registered at the applicant’s facility.

  • Target Hardening Equipment (Up to $100,000): Provides funding for the purchase and installation of security equipment on property owned or leased by the nonprofit organization. 

Funding Amount: $20,000 to $100,000, based on funding category

Community Policing Development Microgrants

The US Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Solutions “Community Policing Development Microgrants” Program provides funding to local law enforcement agencies to implement demonstration or pilot programs that work to solve problems in the agency or community, to advance crime fighting, community engagement, problem solving, or organizational changes in support of community policing. This grant has multiple focus areas: 

  • Preventing and Investigating Domestic Terrorism. 

  • Violent Crime Enforcement and Investigations. 

  • Gang Violence Enforcement and Investigations.

  • Detecting and Investigating Human Trafficking. 

  • Investigating and Interrupting Child Exploitation. 

  • Vagrancy and Squatting. 

  • Immigration and Border Security. 

  • Investigating and Interrupting Opioid and Drug Markets. 

  • Officers Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention. 

  • Unmanned Aerial Systems. 

  • Investigating and Interrupting Cyber Crime.
