Weekly Grant Round-Up

Recently, Governor Murphy approved another round of funding for the New Jersey Department of Transportation's (NJDOT) State Aid Programs. These opportunities include:

  • Municipal Aid - funds local governments for projects that enhance public safety and improve existing infrastructure.

  • Transit Village - funds select municipalities for transportation projects within a half-mile of a transit facility.

  • Bikeways Grant - funds construction projects that expand existing bikeways, or create new ones.

  • Safe Streets to Transit - funds projects that improve pedestrian safety and encourage walking to and from local transit facilities.

There will be $150 million in total funding for the Municipal Aid program. There will be $1 million each for the other programs totaling $3 million. The US DOJ's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Community Policing Development (CPD) Microgrant Program is closing soon. This opportunity provides funding to local, state, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies to implement demonstration or pilot projects that offer creative ideas to advance crime-fighting, community engagement, problem-solving, or organizational changes supporting community policing in one of several subcategories. Applicants can request up to $175,000 in funding, with no match required, and submissions are due on May 14, 2024. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) is now accepting applications for the Technology Business Tax Certificate Transfer (NOL) Program. This program allows unprofitable, NJ-based technology companies to sell a portion of their net operating losses (NOL), and research and development (R&D) tax credits to unrelated profitable companies. Capital from these sales can be used for company-growth and operating costs, or to fund future research. There is $75 million in total program funding, and applications are due by June 30, 2024. The Truist Foundation funds nonprofits that work within the foundation's two focus areas: "building career pathways to economic mobility" and "strengthening small businesses". This grant program is for new or increased needs, such as funding to launch a new program, funding for program-specific equipment, and funding for program improvements. The Foundation will also consider capital requests for select applicants. Award sizes vary depending on the needs of the applicant and program, but requests have to be at least $5,000.
