This Week in Grants: Wildlife and Environmental Protection
This week we are focusing on grants that address issues in wildlife and environmental protection. Each opportunity accepts applications from municipalities and nonprofit organizations in New Jersey and elsewhere. They provide funding relating to boating safety, clean energy, habitat protection, and other related projects.
Fish and Wildlife Service - National Outreach and Communications Program
Applications for this program must address one or more of the five purposes of an outreach and communications program, which are defined in the Sportfishing and Boating Safety Act of 1998 as programs that:
Improve communications with anglers, boaters, and the general public regarding angling and boating opportunities
Reduce barriers to access and participation in angling and boating activities
Advance the adoption of sound angling and boating practices in the U.S.
Promote conservation and the responsible use of the nation's aquatic resources
Further safety in angling and boating.
Funded efforts are expected to support at least one of the following key outcomes:
Increased participation in fishing and boating
Enhanced public awareness and education about how and where to engage in these activities
Targeted outreach using research-driven messaging
Strengthened capacity among stakeholders to deliver effective outreach
Improved awareness of access to fishing and boating opportunities

Houston Safari Club Foundation Grants Program
Grants from the Houston Safari Club Foundation are used to support conservation activities. Eligible organizations align themselves with one of the following areas of interest:
Wildlife and habitat protection
Youth education
Shooting sports
Funding is intended for projects including research, sustainability, species promulgation, wildlife management, urban sprawl, anti-poaching, youth shooting sports, and more.

Richard King Mellon Foundation- Nonprofit/Public Sector General Application
The Richard King Mellon Foundation has committed more than $1 billion to conserve and restore critical habitats across the United States; to promote sustainable economic development; and to help create livable communities. The Foundation’s Conservation program has four investment areas: habitat conservation, stewardship, activation, and sustainable communities. This includes promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy, new sustainable technologies, healthier homes, green spaces and trails, improving quality of life, etc.

TC Energy-Build Strong Grants
Build Strong donates to non-profits, registered charities, associations, municipalities, Indigenous groups and foundations that:
Equip first responders with the resources they need to keep our communities safe
Improve access to education for future energy problem solvers
Protect and enhance the environment for today and tomorrow
Mitigate barriers to well-being in our communities.
TC Energy prioritizes funding to organizations that can clearly articulate anticipated community impact on their funding application and are able to report on impact post-funding. They consider investment opportunities from communities within an approximate 30-kilometre (20-mile) radius of their operations or projects, that: align with one of their 4 focus areas, address a gap or need in the community that will allow the community to thrive, create shared value and prosperity between our communities and our business, promote equity and equality, offer engagement opportunities for their employees, etc.
