Grants from the Preserve New Jersey: Historic Preservation Fund

The New Jersey Historic Trust has opened a new round of funding for its "Preserve New Jersey: Historic Preservation Fund" program. This program provides multiple types of grants that allow non-profit organizations and local governments to preserve historically important sites within the state. Interested applicants can apply to one of the following grant tracks:

  • Historic Site Management Grants, which provide awards up to $75,000 for property owners and managers to gain a better understanding of the preservation needs of their site or structure, to plan for future operations and programs at their site, and to broaden public awareness and enjoyment of historic sites within the state.

  • Heritage Tourism Planning Grants, which provide awards up to $75,000 to fund planning activities such as establishing performance evaluation systems, providing training initiatives, and assessing visitor-readiness at historic sites.

  • Municipal, County, and Regional Planning Grants, which provide awards up to $75,000 to local governments within the state to conduct planning and stewardship activities for historic sites within their areas.

  • Capital Preservation Grants, which provide awards up to $750,000 to assist with construction expenses related to preserving, restoring, and rehabilitating historic properties within the state.

Applicants are allowed to request funds from more than one grant type, and for more than one historic resource. The required match ranges from 25% to 50% of eligible project costs, depending on the specific funding track.
